Claudia Schiffer - Pray - Vorn Magazin
Pray

A contribution to Vorn Magazin's Claudia Schiffer issue.

The image uses a photograph of Claudia Schiffer with her face obstructed by large forms. Without a face, she is void of personality and is reduced to a physical form, resulting in an icon of the female body. She is only a symbol, a representation of herself. The black and white forms are abstracted orchid petals. In many cultures, orchids are associated with love, luxury, beauty, lust, greed and wealth. However, in the case of this image, they create a rather silly image, almost that of a monster. The title "Pray," is a comment on how we worship superficial, commercially-produced beauty, no matter how ridiculous it looks. Claudia is also on her knees (but in a lazy, sloppy, careless position), praying to herself?
